www.zenbrighton.co.uk/aboutus.htmExtract 'The Brighton Zen group meets twice weekly at the Bodhi Garden Dharma Centre in central Brighton to practise zazen. All are welcome to attend. Please attend one of our introductions first if you are new to our practice. Please wear loose, dark clothes.
We are affiliated to the International Zen Association United Kingdom (IZAUK) part of the International Zen Association (founded by Master Taisen Deshimaru).
Soto Zen "True Zen means sitting quietly in the right posture. Zen means setting the mind at rest, concentrating intuition and reasoning together. Zen is not some special state, it is our normal condition, silent, peaceful, awake, without agitation". - Taisen Deshimaru 1914 - 1982
Soto Zen was founded in Japan by Dogen in the 13th century and brought to Europe by Taisen Deshimaru in 1967. Kodo Sawaki Roshi, from whom Master Deshimaru received transmission, endeavoured throughout his life to return Zen to its purest source, the practice of zazen.'
